Sonographic imaging was first introduced in veterinary medicine for the early diagnosis of pregnancy. Recently, ultrasound has changed the way obstetric care has been provided in small animal practice, allowing for closely monitoring pregnancies, for example, embryonic resorption, poorly developed fetuses, congenital anomalies and placental-related abnormality. Early diagnosis of normal and abnormal pregnancies provides the better management of the pregnant animals.
