Head and neck pain in dogs – diagnosis and treatment

There is a wide variety of conditions that cause head and/or neck pain in dogs; some are obvious, and others require a systematic approach to diagnosis. This presentation will review the key anatomical structures and discuss the diseases affecting each region, together with the relevant management strategies that are indicated.

  • To identify the anatomical structures that are associated with head and neck pain.
  • To describe the diseases and pathophysiological processes that cause head and neck pain.
  • To recognise the clinical signs that are associated with head and neck pain.
  • To describe the indications for, and limitations of, diagnostic tests available to investigate head and neck pain in dogs.
  • To describe treatment protocols for canine diseases of the head and neck
